Douglas Gale is the President and owner of the REO America group of companies. He founded the firm in 2003 at the conclusion of an eight-year career at a small investment firm. Under his direction REO America has grown by revenue multiples each year.
His career at the previous firm started as the acquisitions manager for their tax lien investment fund (distressed assets) when it was valued at just $10 million. In the first three years he led the growth of the fund to $80 million while increasing its sustained return by more than 3.0%. In addition, he cut costs by about 50 bps and reduced losses to less than 0.4%. At the conclusion of his tenure, he was the Vice President of Operations, running four out of the five departments within the fund.
Mr. Gale completed his MBA in 2004 at the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College. He graduated at the top of his class with the Beta Gamma Sigma designation. His studies focused on finance and international business.
Mr. Gale’s knowledge and experience is recognized throughout the distressed asset industry. His involvement in the National Tax Lien Association (www.ntlainfo.org) has been at all levels: presenter at three annual conferences, board member since 2000, and multiple officer seats, including vice president for two consecutive years. In September-2006 he was a panelist at a mortgage services seminar attended by thousands. Furthermore, he is the only person within the tax lien industry to be engaged by two major investment firms as an expert witness in lawsuits against their previous asset management partners.
Mr. Gale personally has invested in distressed and delinquent real estate since 1998 and multi-family units since 2000. He has purchased and managed over $300 million in distressed assets (primarily tax liens) and properties throughout 23 states. He has supervised the renovation and liquidation of hundreds of REO properties, including several commercial properties.
On a personal level, Mr. Gale is a volunteer, a student of life, and thrill seeker. Mr. Gale is a board member of the City of Altamonte Springs Board of Zoning Appeals. He continues his educational pursuits through books, seminars, and attendance to various MBA level courses. For retreat he enjoys rock climbing, white-water rafting, mountain biking, wake boarding, and skiing.
